Duo 3.0 or Quad 2.4 ? (E6850 or Q6600)

Another thing to consider is the future resell value. One day you'll be selling it to upgrade. I think the Quad will be easier to resell.

if people are still using single core processors today, years after the p4 got up to 3.0ghz, and not having major problems, and are still even able to run the high majority of applications without a hitch... what's to stop you from *not* upgrading every 6 months without problems? sure, the duo to quad core leap came fast... but look at how long it took for single to duo. and even now with the dual core out for a few years, applications are just now starting to take advantage of it. I belive a duo is still viable and the quad is more of a server/business rendering processor.

It just depends, both arguments are good. However, for me, i would go dual. By the time you would see a majority of app/games taking advantage of multithreading well, you prob would upgrade to a faster quad anyhow!

Finally I bought the Core2 Duo 2.66 - FSB 1333 MHz (E6750). It sent my 3DMark06 rating from 8,500 to 10,300. I was on special at $197 at my local sjop in Ottawa (pccyber.com)

Where do you get your 3DMark06 rating?

The CPU should no have increased your 3D mark. This is weird. I guess your videocard was bottle necked with the previous CPU.
