Duo heatsink for quad cpu

im using my friends stock fan with my quad (OEM), he has one 2 but uses an aftermarket one.

He needs the fan to RMA his cpu and i have to take apart my computer to use his, but i have a duo fan from my old core 2. would that work for the quad?

Look up the product information while the quad is still a Socket 775 cpu to see what that shows for what lines of Intel models it supports. What brand and model is the sink for the Core 2 an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro or some other?

What he meant to say was "Yes, you may run a few degrees warmer, but you'll be fine".

See? Simple.

The stock hsf from the Core 2 might work while still not being recommended since both models are S775 cpus. Each stock hsf is intended for the model it comes with where you would be better simply going for a 3rd party cooler you would normally look into to start with for a new build.

Wix, ignore him, he's utterly useless and talks out his ass. You'd think that after 20k posts of absolute shit, someone would do something with him, but...eh. You'll be fine with the C2D fan, just don't expect absolutely freezing temps.

Tell that to my Q6600 stock....it couldn't keep it cool worth s*** even at stock speeds.

my cousin opted for a 3rd party fan, just a cheap AC 7
he had the exact same issue, he went from a E7200 to Q6600, but got the latter OEM, we tried the duo's hs/f, but it was idling at about 50c, and i'm not sure loads, but the heatsink isn't made for the processor's TDP, it's going to work and keep it cool enough to operate, but i really suggest an aftermarket cooler
