Duplicating HD's

I don't know if this comes under cloning, but is there a way to run two identical Hard drives in a PC so that you can not only backup data, but duplicate your programs?

As anyone who has had to go through the tedious process of doing a clean install knows, all the notes and screenshots in the world don't make it any quicker to go through the whole process of reinstalling programs, setting up desktop icons, recreating tidy folder arrangements in the start menu for groups of programs, resetting icons in Docky, etc, etc and I've always wondered if I could mirror two HD drives and update daily, weekly or monthly, so that if the primary drive failed, I had the other drive as an instant backup.

Is this easy to do?

Thanks

Look into Acronis True Image, and you could do scheduled drive backups. If your drive fails, then you boot to your bootable media and restore the image to a new drive.
