DV Camera wont show up on computer

Hi,

I recently bought a Sony Handycam HC22, and its better to use a FireWire cable (also known as IEEE 1394 or I.Link) to transfer film, than a USB cable, so I bought the FireWire cable, and hooked it up to my pc and nothing happens. Everything's ok with my camera, it's got fresh batteries, its on play mode, the cable is plugged in properly, the 1394 connection IS showing up on Network Connections.

Anyone know how I can get this camera to show up on my computer?

We're the computer experts here, you don't have to remind us this stuff :rolleyes: Hehe

Anyway, with all camera's I've plugged into my computer, they ALWAYS pop up just like any other device(USB or firewire) plugged into the machine. So, do you get anything that like? The little sound when the camera is plugged into your computer(as you would with a USB drive or something) If not, can you or have you tried anything else that uses firewire, just to be sure the ports are good.

Oh, hehe, and just for kicks...which port are you using. If you have one on the front of your machine, try the one on the back.
 
see if a program like windows movie maker will detect it. I don't think you can access it through My Computer.
 
is it listed in my computer? if so double click and see what happens?
is it on tape mode, not memory card?
what happens when you play the tape when it's plugged in to the computer?
is it set to DV out, not IN?
Have you read the instructions for it?
are there any significatn messages that come up on the camera screen when you plug it in?
Have you tried it with any other movie editing software?
 
no luck

Now when i plug in the camera, the camera said 'DV in' on playback mode, yet the computer does not make any noise when its plugged in, or i dont think it recognises the camera at all, when i go on Windows Movie Maker which im hoping to use, it does not recognise my film device at all. I have never used any other device in my IEEE socket so i dont know if theres a faulty drive.

You need to somehow wet the camera mode to DV out, as this will output the video to the computer, on the current setting ti is waiting for video to be transferred to it, it shoudl say how to in the instructions

All digital video cameras with DV IN should have DV out, it is DV out that some don't have, iu have yet to come across a digital video camera without DV out. seems like you are having a strange problem here, maybe ring up the manufacturers helpline
