dvd ---> avi

hey guys i have a question bout how to make a dvd into a mpg or avi file and store it on my harddrive. I legally own this dvd. What programs should I use? Thanks

AutoGK is decent and easy to use. Gordian Knot is a little more involved and is what I personally use. Both are free programs. Also check out the guides on doom9.org.

You'll need DVD Decrypter too (or another DVD ripper).

smartripper is really good for ripping and is very fast. I use SmartRipper for ripping and convert them to DivX using Dr. DivX.

I've been using another free one called DDR, it was supposed to convert to divx but I couldn't figure out how to do it. It still does mpeg and avi. No frills but it works well and on my comp it takes less time to rip it than to watch it so that's good I guess.

i use fairuse wizard light, and is really easy to use, and goes straight to avi from dvd.
