DVD Burner

Hello everybody,

Please help. I have recently purchased a Sony DW-U18A, the drive records onto CD’s perfectly but will not accept DVD’s. When the drawer in empty the drive icon displays ‘DVD-RW Drive(D’ but when I insert a blank DVD the title changes to ‘CD Drive(D’.

Have the same problem. Ignore it as long as you are able to burn onto DVDs. Have you tried that?

Hello Jan,

No, the DVD's won't burn. I am using MusicMatch Burner Plus, the process appears to complete and I am getting a success message but the disc is always empty.

Try this...

If Iwere you, I would try and remove the drive from the device manager and reboot. See if that solves anything. If it does not, it may well be a problem with the software that you use to burn DVDs. I would try a demo of Nero Burning Rom. If Nero fails to work, then you could be looking at a hardware problem of the burner itself, namely its DVD part.

What media are you using DVD-R or DVD+R?
Can you play any DVD's?
