DVD Burning Questions

I am new here and to computers,so bare with on this because I dont know much.I was reading a post about ISO,have no idea what this is.

A guy here at work recorded a movie from TV onto DVD,3 on movies on one disc = not so good quality!!!
I downloaded them to my laptop and burned it to a DVD,when I put it in the DVD player it just show a still pic. on them movie, could'nt search,FF, or anything.I took a DVD I got with my metal detector and done the same thing and it works flawlessly.

1)Whats goin on there?

I can burn photos to DVD and view them on the computer, but my DVD player wont read it.

2)Why is that?

I dont know the name of the software, but I have one on another computer that is called CD Burner, thats all I can find and it does a pretty good job,and my DVD player will read them. And the one one my laptop has a dog face on the icon and says DVD/CD burner.

I may have to get better burning software.

Sorry I cant explain it better.

Thanks,

Assuming that the movie that was recorded wasn't copy righted in anyway, as such discussion is against forum rules, it could be a problem with the DVD player.

Some, in fact many DVD players do not support certain writable DVD formats, and sometimes even ones that do will have issues with certain brands of DVDs.

Also, how are you burning it. If you're just putting the video file on the CD as a data file, while some DVD players will not have a problem with that, it makes it more likely that it will not be compatible. You need to find some program that allows you to burn the file as a video playable in most DVD players, an option found in any decent burning software. You might try Nero Express, as it's a decent free option.

Question,if its recorded off TV,How can it have a copy right?

I dont know how I'm doin it,I just went to My Videos and found the file and burned them. The one of that metal detecting DVD plays just fine.

Do I need to close the disc?
