DVD/CD-RW Read Problems

I just got a Lite-On DVD/CD-RW combo drive, the model is SOHC-5232K.

I installed it, didn't seem to be any problems, the computer isn't very old but I hooked it up to the sound card anyway (I've heard that this is unnecessary in newer computers).

When I booted up, the BIOS recognized it fine, and Windows detected it and there seemed to be no problems. When I went to put in an audio CD to test it, Windows Media Player opened up and it went right down the playlist changing the song titles to orange, saying that none of them could be read. To make sure it wasn't the CD, I put in another and the same thing happened.

It also won't read data CD's. The odd thing is, the Write function seems to be working fine, I burned a few things onto a CD-R and it worked fine. Do you think this is a problem with the drive itself, the ribbon connector, or something I have to do driver-wise? I checked the Lite-On website and it said that it should detect automatically.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check the jumper settings on the back of the DVD/CDRW.

If set to MASTER, the end of the DATA-CABLE should be connected.
If set to SLAVE, the middle of the DATA-CABLE should be connected.

How do you know if they are writting alright?

Check the jumper settings on the back of the DVD/CDRW.
In that case, there would be drive detection issues.

Dunno if you've got the latest firmware for your drive but here it is:NK0J
