dvd/cd writer problem

Okay, I am going to try to explain exactly what is going on. My dvd writer won't play or record any discs. With no disc in the drive, when I go to "my computer" then double click on the drive, it opens to a blank folder instead of saying insert disc like the other drives. When I put a disc in and double click on the drive it opens to the same empty folder. When using any dvd/cd recording software it says please insert disc. I have checked under device manager and checked the drive it says it is working properly. I have tried deleting the upper and lower fields in the registry and tried all the troubleshooting programs that have come with my computer. I have a HP Pavilion with dual core(64x2) running windows xp and the drive in question is lite-on dvdrwshw-16qh6s. Please Help

Have you tried just going into the device manager and right clicking on the drive and click uninstall, reboot and let windows redetect and reinstall the driver.

Yes I have tried that a couple times. I also did a restore to try to go back to when I knew the burner was working

Dvd writer/cd writer problem

Hi everybody……we just recently got a new computer. It came with windows home edition, and then I upgraded it to professional. The computer has a DVD Rom Drive and HP DVD Writer Combo Drive but now the problem is that I cannot get the burner to burn anything. When I open NTI CD Maker 6 platinum it says no supported Drive Detected.
