I have around 4 GB of home videos in my HD.They are in .mpg format,I wan't to burn them in a DVD so I can watch them in my DVD player.So I need a software that can convert them into .VOB file so I can burn them in a DVD.Can u guys suggest any good FREE software?

Try Super DVD Creator. its not free, but the trial version will be enough for you.
Interface is very simple. You can add ur own menu, background music and picture very easily.
