DVD Drive not showing up?

Hello, I was just about to install a game (which i've installed before i reformated about 3 months ago) and I have a problem:

My DVD drive doesn't show up. In "My Computer", there isn't a dvd drive shown. But i know I have one beacuse it used to be there. I've scanned for virus' and spyware.

Any thoughts?

In your hardware profiles is there one listed? Possibly the drivers for the drive have become corrupted or uninstalled...

mine did the same thing when i got my 240, it was in the BIOS, i just screwed around with like the cd-drives or whatever..

What operating system? If you see it in the BIOS, and not My Computer, it is an OS problem (and a reasonably common one)... But first we have to know whether it shows up in the BIOS.

I fixed it somehow? I restarted my comp and then it said that i was missing some c:/system32 something and it said to put in the windows cd and press r, then i restarted again and it showed up..so i guess im good now, thanks.

I have had a few clients of mine have that problem, I've talked with a bunch of people, and no one has an answer, it started happening alot about a year and a half ago, I'm not sure if it is a fault with the OS, something going around over the net or what, but myself and other technicians have tried repeatedly to fix this problem, only one answer, to replace the drive, you are very lucky indeed that you got it working again.
