DVD drive

Hi, just wondering if there is any point in spending a lot of money on a dvd drive, yesterday I bought Halo for 29p from cash converters, I tried 3 times to install on my computer and every time it got stuck at 77%, so I installed it on my laptop and connected it to the tv and played that way, the disk did have a few scratches, but for 29p I can't really grumble, am I correct in assuming the dvd drive on the desktop computer is a little bit sensitive? this is the only disk I have had troubles with, it has always installed new games fine

Yes, some drives are more sensitive then others. Its the same as home dvd players. I've seen a scratched disk play fine on one machine but freeze and skip on another.

What DVD writer are you using? If it is other than Samsung then it could not recognize the scratch sectors of the DVD and unable to read the source file. Its better on your part to change the DVD writer as thier is trouble in its lens and contact your dealer from whom you have brought it and exchange for a new one.

It's a Sony Optiarc which I got in a computer I was given for free annoyingly because I think I accidentally left the Samsung one I bought new a while ago in a computer I sold, not impressed. I think I will buy a new one but not in a massive rush as it plays everything else, are there any that are known to be particularly good?
