dvd driver doesn't read dvds? but only cds

My dad has a notebook: acer aspire 5920.
Like a few months ago about 3 or 4 the dvd driver randomly stopped to read dvds (any type or dvd -/+).
But only could read CDs? I have tried driver update/download software, but it says: up-to-date, no errors etc.

Would anyone know whats wrong with it?
 
The laser that reads dvd's probably went out. Open up the drive and use a can of compress air to blow it out. Or the lens may be dirty.
