DVD - Hidden Archives

Hi everybody.

My problem is:

1° I burned some archives in my DVD-RW using Nero.
2° I burned some pictures again and Nero gave an error while trying to burn.
3° All my pictures I took in my life, that I removed from my PC, are in this DVD-RW. But the matter is, Notebooks and PCs don't read it, but DVD machine reads it. Computer gives as if all the archives were hidden. I tried many programs to recover something but they give the same message as computer does: DVD not found.

I hope you help me, I tried to find a solution for this in a Brazilian forum but no one found any solution.

Unfortunately you've found out the hard way that multisession dvds are not a good way to archive files. Every session there is a risk of a failure. It's best to archive to dvd-r and finalize the disk. They are so cheap today. Only delete the files on the HDD once the disk has been verified by Nero. If you want to put several sessions on one disk, record several dvd-r at different times and combine the dvd-r's and any other files on to one dvd-r. Again, only disposing of the originals once the compilation has been finalized and verified.

If the dvd machine (whatever that is) reads the disk and all the files then it must be possible for other drives to read it. Sometimes disks recorded on one machine won't play on others. Try a few more PCs to see if they can read the disk, particularly ones of the same age as the dvd machine.

You tried a number of recovery programs. One issue that typically occurs with mechanically damaged disks is that if the first part of the dvd cannot be read, the drives seem to assume it's not a dvd and will not read anything regardless of what software you throw at it (other than forensic software).

Did you try reloading the disk (as "continue multisession disk") into Nero to see what it listed if anything?

One application I used many years ago when it was quite a cheap application from a different company is now called cd/dvd diagnostics. Unfortunately it's not cheap today. That application reads the disks directly. Their forensic version is hugely expensive so forget that one.

Thanks, I got NERO 8 and it's copying my DVD and shows some LBA erros but still copying. I hope it saves some files. I'll try to run this DVD in a new PC because my PC and notebook are not so new.
