i backed up a few of my dvds by making them into 7.6 gig iso images but now i need to burn them to a disk but the thing is the dvd can only hold 4.7 gigs...so can some one tell me how to shrink the iso down to fit on the dvd i use ubuntu 9.10

I don't know any easy way to do it, I'd probably just mount the image and then burn the stuff from it on as many DVDs as I need to "by hand".

You should have just used DvdFab to copy/backup the discs. You can choose when backing up to create a 4.7 or higher sized backup.

Otherwise use DVDshrink

As much as fair use hasnt been tested in court....backing up commercial DVD's is against DMCA copyright law as you need to break encryption to copy them(.iso or otherwise).

He never said it was movies, you just assumed that

Technically its not Illegal if your just backing them up for personal use. If you distribute/get rid of them then, its Illegal.

incorrect, backup a dvd movie requires breaking encryption is illegal as well as making "backup copies". The user also did post they were movies in their second post, and other forms of dvd's such as games also have laws against copying them.
