Good morning,
I just bought an USB to IDE adapter. I connected it to an IDE 250GB HD and my PC. The operating system understands that something is connected but fails to configure the HD.
The real problem is that actually my OS doesn't see the DVD drive, which is internal (ATAPI). Even the BIOS doesn't see any DVD drive mounted on the PC. Another strange thing is that when I mount and unmount USB storage devices... among the devices there is also my SATA 150GB HD, as if it were a USB and not a SATA device (it is internal!).
COMPUTER DETAILS
AMD Athlon 64 Dual 2.2GHz 4200+
1GB 667MHz Ram
ASUS MB m2n am2 nforce430 pcx
NVIDIA GeForce 7300gt 256MB pcx
SATA 150GB HD Western Digital wd1600js
ATAPI DVD RW+- Pioneer 115dbk
Floppy Disc
Windows XP SP2
USB Mouse
PS2 Keyboard
USB to IDE adapter: Conceptronic CIDE23U
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
When I look Start - Control Panel - System - Device Management - Drives only shows the HD. No '?' are present except for the VGA compatible video controller (I bought the PC ten days ago and didn't install GeForce drivers).
The BIOS doesn't recognize any DVD, either primary or secondary ATAPI.
I've not unmounted the HD by means of "USB safe removal" (I'm not sure that' the correct WinXP name, my OS is in italian). I'm afraid of doint that
.
I've not try to unmount the USB drivers, also because I've a USB mouse.
The HD works. Internet works. Another external USB HD I had works.
I haven't changed the HW: the PC is sealed due to warranty.
The external drive is 3.5" and I connected it with a power supply which was sold in bundle with the USB-2-IDE adapter.
