DVD only plays on specific Device?

I bought some DVDs, and it is weird, since some won't play in my laptop, but can be played on other laptops or DVD player device. But my laptop's DVD drive isn't broken or anything, it can play other DVDs. Do you know what reasons that might cause it, and how can I make my DVD drive better, so that it can play all kinds of DVDs.

My guess would be that the region on your laptop dvd drive is different than the dvd's you are trying to use. Each DVD has a region. Most DVD drive's have a certain amount of times you can change the region before it locks to a specific region.

To change this:

1. right click on your dvd drive in My Computer,

2. goto properties then goto hardware,

3. select your dvd drive and press the properties button

4. next click on region you may be able to change it but be carefull you will only have a certain amount of times you can change this before it locks to a specific region.

No problem. In future you might want to check the region on the back of the DVD case, or if its on Ebay or any other website it should list the region.

Here are the specific region codes.

0. No Region Coding
1. United States of America, Canada
2. Europe, including France, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Arabia, Japan and South Africa
3. Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia
4. Australia and New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America
5. India, Africa, Russia and former USSR countries
6. Peoples Republic of China

7,8,9 you shouldn't have anyway :P
