DVD Player

Hi,
I have had my computer for about three years and never had the occasion to use the DVD player. Afew days ago I received a Dvd in the mail. A try it type of thing. I couldn't get it to play. So I got another DVD to try. It didn't work either. The player hums and flashes a light and then goes silent. The CD player works fine. If I right click the control panel and then click WinDVD the control panel displays properly for a few seconds and then goes blank except for the play and eject buttons. Play will pull in the tray and eject will push it out. Does anyone know what these things mean?
Thanks -- kadee

what kind it is? if you know, see if they have any driver updates on their main site. since its been so long, just make sure that the plugs and cables are securely plugged in and isn't lose or anything.

is the CD drive on your computer the original one that came w/ ur system or did u install it manually?

and if it doesnt work, maybe you should try installing a new CD drive to see if it works and if it doesn't, then u might have a problem with the plugs that are going into the back of the drive.

Dvd

HI, This all the original equipment on this computer. It has been a good one. I followed windows' instructions for a possible corruption of the drive, but nothing changed after doing that. I get no messages when discs are inserted or when play is pressed. Thanks for the comebacks. kadee

Dvd

Thanks guys, I was hoping that the problem would be something simple. I am not up to switching drives or any thing like that. We tried!!! thanks again----kadee

There might be a newer firmware version from the drive's manufacturer website that can be downloaded and installed.

Newer firmware might enable DVD reading or improve a drive's performance. That might fix it.
