Can anyone please tell me the difference between dvds with the + & - symbols I am only new to computers and want to burn a dvd and is nero what I use thanks

I'm not sure on the meaning of the + and - but if you want to burn you dvd collection or other dvd's I think dvd shrink is pretty good and it's what I use.

they are basically the same but use slightly differnet write methods. personally i use dvd-r's since they are more compatible with everything.

You really need to be more specific.

Do you mean ...

Burn a data dvd? or, like and AVI to DVD? or your own videos to a DVD? or make a DVD backup?

DVD-R/W was the first DVD recording format released that was compatible with standalone DVD Players.
DVD-R is a non-rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 91% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-RW is a rewriteable format and it is compatible with about 74% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD-R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).

DVD+R/W has some better features than DVD-R/W such as lossless linking and both CAV and CLV writing.
DVD+R is a non-rewritable format and it is compatible with about 86% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+RW is a rewritable format and is compatible with about 74% of all DVD Players and most DVD-ROMs.
DVD+R/W supports single side 4.7 GB* DVDs(called DVD-5) and double side 9.4 GB* DVDs(called DVD-10).

I also use dvd-r, but you need to check what your burner supports

the Dvd +R and Dvd -R are basicly the same but work for diffrent foramts that what your tryin to burn on to them
