DVD problems

For some reason my dvd drive doesnt let me watch movies on it, i have no clue whats wrong, im guessing im missing some software for it, does anybody know of a free software download?
 
can you identify your drive? if so, you might want to try a firmware upgrad, if any. did this just suddenly happen out of no where? or did you did something previously to make this occurance?
 
my drive is a benq 16x dvd rom drive, when i went to install the software that came with it it asked me for the serial adress, i got my dvd drive oem and didnt have the serial number, i am guessing this is the problem
