Hi

I have movies on my computer in .avi and .mpg formats. When I burn the .avi formats to a dvd using the standard dvd burn software or even drag and drop, they never play in my dvd player but will still play on the computer.

Do I need any special burning software for this. I can burn CD's but not movies over 700MB and they play fine in the DVD player.

Any help is much appreciated.

How old is your DVD player?
What kind and price?

I have a cheap DVD player and it won't play movies that I've burnt :(

You need to convert the files to divx format before burning them. Most DVD players won't handle the content without you doing that first, but some will.

Umm that is only if he has a Mpeg 4 DVD player. Of course burning just avi or mpeg files wouldn't work, you must first encode them to the DVD architecture. Do you have a commercial DVD of some movie? If you pop that into your drive, you will see two files, audioTS and videoTS, the videots folder contains VOB files and that's what you must convert your avi or mpeg files into so that it will play in MOST DVD players. I think Nero recode does that, but the compression is not very good.

Yeah, there are heaps of converting softwares on there, take the time to try them out before buying. There are always trail versions.

thanks heaps will try......

my dvd player has divx and mpeg4 playback on it

i thought it wierd the CD with .avi plays in the DVD player and the DVD does not.

cheers everyone
