DVD-R and CD-R Can I use both?

My CD Rom does not have a DVD burner.I want to burn a audio CD. Can I use a blank DVD-R disc to burn a CD or do I have to use a blank CD-R disc only? Thanks!
 
Let me see if I have this straight

My problem is I can't back up my tunes on iTunes or burn a cd. I thought I bought CD-R blank disk's but I bought DVD-R(Maxell)blank disks. So your saying since my CDRom is not a DVD burner I can only use CD-R blank disks to back up my iTunes and to burn a cd audio disk? My DVD-R disks are useless on my system? Thanks!
 
Yes, you may be able to return them or if you want, dvd burners are dirt cheep, around 50$ so if you want to spend the money you can upgrade or return them and get cd's

Well I hope that's my problem. I only bought 5 of them but it also might be worth my time to buy a DVD burner. I just thought that I read where the DVD-R and CD-R disks were interchangable. But I was wrong. Learn something new everyday. It's just remembering it thats the hard part. Thanks
