Dvd-r Dvd-r+ Dvd-r- ??

they have DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM (not sure about DVD+RAM), they are all meant for different purposes although most of them can do what you want them to do. Im not sure of the differences between them, but DVD+R and DVD-R are used for data and video DVD's.

Have a read through Praetor's CD/DVD 101. It explains the exact differences. Now as to the general difference, there is not much. You can use the +-Rs for basically anything. You can, if you wish, use +-RWs for pourposes which allow for the contents being overwritten when needed. All modern burners write on both standards (+ and -).

I can tell you, Corporate MoFos and they're foramts. DVD-R was the first one to be available and it was made by one company (I can't remember which one right now) but other companies wanted a share of the recordable DVD market so they made and alternative format (+R) hoping it will be better. In my opinion I like -R, it's better backwards compatable with older DVD hardware and of course I can hold data on it too.
