DVD Recorders vs. DVRs

What's the difference between the two?

DVR's record video to a hard drive, DVD Recorders record video or files to a DVD.

I'm not sure on this, but I think DVD recorders copy shows onto a DVD and DVRs copy shows onto something inside of it so you can view it later, but you can't burn with a DVR...I think. My family has a DVR and they just set it to record whatever so they can watch it later.
