DVD region

My boss believes that there has to be a way to unlock the region settings on a dvd-r player in one of our computers. No matter how much i tell him that the only way to fix it is to get a new drive, he just won't believe me.:mad: Am i correct when i say that the dvd region cannot be reset or removed?:confused:
 
you can change the region a maximum of 4 or 5 times before it is locked to one region (the last region you set it to). So i'm afraid your wrong on this one...:P
Go to device manager, open the cd/dvd tab, right click on your burner and select properties, then go to dvd region. It's all there.

Even if you reformat, reinstall windows or use the drive in another computer you can't change it once all changes are used.
 
He's right. you will only flash so many times.
After that, party is over. Somebody mentioned thouh
from here. unlimited flash. may...be. don't know.
Of course im talking about new drive burners.
conversion from say pal to u.s. can be done easily
with dvd santa or or dvdfab.

i did not know this! awesome, mine says 4 changes remaining. is there a universal region?
if you have many dvds of different regions it would probably be best to get another dvd player and set each one to a diff region.
 
What is it your trying to accomplish Flashing is risky like a motherboard.
it will shut you down. what do ya want? why don't you just convert to one and be done with it. I travel overseas a lot. many country's. My next will be next year. Africa or Australia next year. then again thats a different adventure. i buy these video's from the cruise ship. or from japan, Hongkong, Philippines or where ever. they mostly have to be converted.

yes that is true, i though you were asking if you could do this with the one dvd drive. no, there isnt a universal region.

I knew this already, this is what has happened, we have had teachers just randomly changing region settings, hence it has locked up and the setting is set to European region. I am right though when i say it can't be chenged after it's locked? My boss thinks there must be a way to change it.
 
Universal, lol. Could i just convert all the movies to AVI and run them or does the region have to be set to whatever region it is for that to work?

I think were talking about the same thing. YES........if its in a pal format you can encode to avi or similar. On the otherhand generally if your burner is used in the states then that would be your choice for the flash. many programs will convert like DVD Santa which works well so does DVDfab.
santa is very flexible. then again nero has worked many times.

funny thing im looking at the advertisement below.
check it out. region free dvd players.
as good as it get.

It is stupid and inconvenient, like all anti-piracy devices. Like on most games you need the disc in the drive to play. It also lowers performance.
Am i right?
 
I just use Magic ISO to create a virtual disc and use that, that way i have two copies of the disc and don't need to use the disc
 
You can just use VLC media player.

It is an open source media player that is totally free and ignores the dvd region so you can play any movies without having to worry about the region settings.

It's also great because it has all the codecs built in so it can play pretty much anything without the need for downloading extra codecs.
