There are 8 regions all together. I have voted region 1 & 2 as I have DVDs from 2 regions. US and UK. I live in the UK and only 1 DVD player will play the region 1 DVD I have. Have not tried it yet in the computer to see if a UK computer will play DVDs from all regions. It tells you in the poll what all the regions are.

I have 1 Region 5 (Lord of the Rings Box Set) and a stack of others that are too scratched up to watch...

But regardless I use VLC Player to watch movies and it doesn't care what the region is, it will play them.

I haven't even thought about DVD regions in at least 10 years. Then again other than the OT Star Wars I only own about 4 DVD's. Everything else is Netflix and "illegal" downloads.

and yet, don't you have an asus xonar and some really nice headphones...

The hell has that got to do with anything?

I don't buy or watch movies, on my PC or anywhere else.

There is also plenty of free, high quality music that artists distribute for free.

Wow, jokes and messing with people don't go through the internet very well.
Yeah, the poor old LOL Thread got shut down for a few days because of some 'Meanwhile in...' pictures I started posting. Then I posted a dead baby joke. Bad idea. Sometimes, yeah, people don't have a good sense of humor. But most of the time the joker is just being obnoxious. Don't be that guy.

Maybe because we're all sick and tired of your crap postings?
I think Pms are more the place for things like this. Not meaning to get in the middle, But i do not want anyone else getting profile infractions because of Jonny.

Good advice.

Serious threads require serious answers jonny. Please with the jokes and such, at least mark it with a joke tag like lol, or [joke] ... [/joke] or something. Outside of the lol thread, we assume it is serious.

OP: I have never had an issue with regions on DVDs. I just use DVDs and hae never had a region issue. I have had 2000 and XP ask for a codec, but a quick download fixes that, and it is not a region error, just a extra that media center did not have back then.

I mostly rent/borrow my dvds, and now blurays from the local video store.
And because I am cheap, I usually only rent them when I have discount vouchers.
I only buy documentaries, and they are usually region 4 and sometimes buy from amazon USA region.

I've noticed that Region 1 DVDs have different copyright messages that appear when you first put a DVD on. On Region 2 DVDs they say Warning and give you the normal copyright message like not to copy, broadcast, pubic performance ect and then in different languages. On Region 1 DVDs they say FBI Anti-Piracy Warning and give you a different message.

None because greedy movie/music industries will not get any of my money.
Yes I agree with you about the costs differences in each country with some regions charging more than others despite the exchange rate in currency.....
Then again their is a valid reason for different regions......classifications & piracy....

Nearly forgot region 4 where we get ripped off with high prices.....

If you do buy DVD from USA amazon and region 4, you would be better off with mult-DVD drive for computer. One DVD drive for region 1 and one DVD drive for region 4. PC can be better choose for you Ian, because you can change many DVD drive and changed region number as you want. If you changed region for too many time, it will lock and need buy new one or keep it for region you normally used it.
