DVD-Ripping - how long should it take?

Hey it takes me about 20 minutes to RIP a single layer DVD movie with my new DVD burner (NEC ND-3520A) when using DVD-Shrink. Is this a good speed or not? How long does the process take in your case?

I've only burned one movie with Nero that I had backed up using DVD Shrink and it took me just under 7 minutes on a 8X DVD-R.

Generally faster if u use a DVDrom. I use an older 16X LG DVDROM for the ripping; usually kick in about 6minutes. DVDburners are generally slower (without firmware hacks that is)

Oops... my bad.

I've never tried ripping directly with DVD Shrink, only DVD Decrypter. That usually takes me about 20 minutes on my Toshiba 48x/16x DVD-ROM.

Yeah i agree a DVD-ROM is much quicker for ripping

i use DVD Decypter & it decrpyts a dvd anywhere from 7 - 28 minutes.

i use cloneDVD usually & it compresses in about 10 minutes

20-22 minutes

I have a sony and it takes me around 20-22 minute to complete the whole thing that is loading and unloading the cd and putting it in the jewel case and the whole bit......I know you probably didn't want that information but I have actually timed myself....(for what reason I am really not sure) :P

Takes me about 20-30 minutes from the time I put in the dvd to be copied to the time I'm taking out the freshly copied dvd. This is using dvd shrink 3.2.

Hmmm

I wonder why it is that using CLONEDVD2...It took 10 minutes the first time I did it. Now it takes about 20 mins to just rip. It's still cool but not the result I was expecting.

CloneDVD (on its own) dosnt rip it just compresses its very good all the same.

You also need to keep in mind that rip time will vary depending on the dvd.

1) is it a dvd-9 or a dvd-5

2) is it copy protected or not

3) is the program your using also compressing

For straight rips, I can rip a css encrypted dvd-9 around 14-15 minutes.

for example ... You take a css encrypted dvd. Use AnyDVD to disable css encryption and region code ... Then you can rip it (your ripping a dvd w/ no copy protection or region codes)

another example ... With a non encrypted or css encrypted dvd-5 you can rip and burn using just DVD Decrypter. Rip w/ DVD Decypter in ISO mode, then burn the ISO w/ DVD Decrypter.
