DVD ROM on HP550 wont open!

Hi,

I can't get the DVD door open on my laptop. I've tried with paper clip. I've read that the DVD ROM will open about 5mm with the paper clip and than must pull the ROM out. I inserted the paper clip, open the DVD ROM about 5mm but I can't open it all the way. I've tried gently to open it, but it's still stuck. I will be happy as hell if someone tells me if there's another way to open the DVD ROM before I took my laptop to a repair service.

Thanks in advance.

If there is a dvd still inside it may be misaligned and jamming. With the tray fully in you could try tipping slightly and gently shaking in several directions to get it back in place. Alternatively try and maneuver with some card with the tray partly open.

With no dvd inside, have you tried keeping pressure on with the paperclip as you pull, in case it is still catching on the tray? I use a small instrument screwdriver which is a bit more controllable with pressure but a paperclip may work.

There's no DVD inside, it's empty. I will try that in a moment. Keeping pressure. I just put the paperclip inside and out, no pressure, cuz I don't know what to, I was scared to damage the drive or something.

With the laptop switched on, did you try opening the tray with your dvd playing software? I tried with Power DVD and it will open the tray with no disk. May or may not work with your player/jammed tray.

When you push with the clip hard enough to release the tray a little, keep the same pressure on the clip while you try to pull the tray out. Three pairs of hands are useful! I would try this exercise with the laptop switched off.
