I just bought an DVD RW Burner (LG GSA-H20N) to replace the old combo drive. The problems is the burning speed is ridiculous slower than it should be,
it takes about 30~ minutes to complete writing a 3.5 gb files.I had compete
it with another SONY DVD RW Drive , it just only needs 4 ~ minutes. What a mass difference !! By the way , the most significance things is that the ASUS Probe (system software bundled with my Asus motherboard) shows the alert of high temperature ,78 degrees!! The memory consumption is also noted that 67% had been used! It is a big shock for me because my system always runs in 49 to 56 degrees and 31 % memory consumption.IT CAN'T BE, the burning process should not create a biggest effect like this! Is there any relation of the problem with this issues ?

Obviously the new dvd burner is not working as it should. If you have the chance, you could try to install it to another pc and see how it behaves there.

Here is what I would do....

I would get a new IDE cable for the burner...then I would uninstall the hardware through device manager in windows, and uninstall all associated drivers. Then boot up the PC for a bit without the burner attached and then install the device again, drivers too. then go the the manufacter's site and upgrade the firmware for it, make sure it is totally up to date.

Burning a DVD should take a substantial % of your memory available away! It is converting all those files, compressing them, caching them, and burning them all at the same time!

hey, what burning software are you using? I use Shrink have almost no problems. make sure your software for burning is up to date also.

good luck my friend.
