Hi,
All of a sudden my DVD drive on my laptop has started to act all weird and this is really affecting my work. So please give it your best shot!
It is a Sony DW-D56A DVD+/-RW Drive on my Sony Vaio VGN-A29GP laptop. It used to be able to write CDs, CDRW, DVDR, DVDRW and read just about anything all ok. Now however, and randomly did it just start to do this, it can read DVDs, but can't write DVDR. CDs are even worse. When you put one in, if whirs as if its going to read it then it stops abruptly with a CD drive braking sound and tries again. And again. And again until it gives up. This happens for CD, CDRW. Obviously it won't write those.
When I go and try to access CD from My Computer, it freezes up and I have to restart explorer.
It asks if you want to open a writable folder when I put in a blank DVDR, but when you go in it is treated as a unwritable CD has opened. So you cant copy files in or use a CD burning program.
This is most frustrating, especially since I have to use it to transfer files to people!! Please lend a hand!
