DVD/RW drives read blank DVD+/-r media as CD-r media when i insert a blank media. I've tried different types, also I've replace the burner and made sure it it set on slave. This is the type of drive that installed.
Samsung SH-S222L/BEBS Internal Half Height Supermulti PATA 22X Lightscribe DVD-Writable Drive.
Also I made sure all connections are tight.

What software are you using for burning? If you are trying to burn with Explorer in XP it will only recognize CDs. Try some dvd burning software. Post if you need recommendations, free or otherwise.

Edit: In XP Explorer if you open Properties for the drive there is a checkbox to enable CD burning (only)

If you have something already that does the job..... Were you looking at data dvds for storing files, or making movie dvds with menus? Both the applications you mentioned are for making movie dvds.

Well you are right about they are for making movies, but i only use convertxtodvd because I only use it for home purpose to put videos on DVD of my sons games and my grandchildren events.

As time progresses, the divisions between TV and PCs are getting more blurred. The main reason for making dvds is to be able to play them anywhere, especially for people without PCs. Some players can handle other formats and some people connect their PC to the TV but for now dvd is the most portable. You can still put a load of avi files on a data dvd to play on someone's PC.

If you want to make more fancy dvds (more art capability, visual effects, more preset designs, animated icons, animated backgrounds) there's plenty of software available. The payware ones tend to have more glitz and flexibility.
