DVD-RW Stopping then starting

A few months ago my laptop (Tiny M64 Pro) DVD-RW drive stopped playing any kind of dvd's and cd's, then over the last couple of weeks it's started recognising cd's again and as of last night it's recognising and playing dvd's!

Any idea why it stopped recognising media then all of a sudden recognised it again?

Has this happened to anyone else?

wierd. First update drivers, then try firmware, maybe evn try cleaning the lens, with a lens cleaner cd

yeah that happened to my laptop too, its cd-rom drive was just dirty... took me 5 months to figure that out tho... lol

What I find particulary strange about this case is that both the DVD and CD reading capabilities went. I doubt that both lenses would be dirty and therefore think that it has more to do with Windows or something software based.
