I have a LG DVD-RW drive (hl-dt-st dvd-rw_gsa-h11n) in my desktop computer.
I am running Windows XP Pro.
This unit is about 3 and a half years old.
It has worked flawlessly until lately.
Now when I put a dvd/cd into the drive it will not AutoPlay.
I have gone into My Computer/DVD Drive/Properties/AutoPlay and there is no option to set it to AutoPlay. I have it set on default to prompt me each time to select which program to use but it wont even do that.
I have gone into the Registry and checked to see it everything is set correct and everything looks fine.
But, it will play the DVD movie or program fine if i do it manually. For instance if it is a Store bought DVD i put it in the drive all i get is a small window that shows the files on the disk. If I open PowerDVD or Windows Media Player and click Play DVD the movie will start and play great.
It will recognize my Windows XP disk fine automatically and a few store bought DVD movies. But, decrypted movies or copied music/progam cd's no way.
Is the drive possibly faulty (since I have used it a ton to burn and play over 3 years) and needs replacing?
Is there a way to fix this problem without having to do a complete fresh install?
Thanks so much for any input you might have.
