DVDRW Drives

Well your links are for 1 IDE cable and 1 drive... the drive looks fine though. LG is a good brand and that model does pretty much everything.

Are you looking to buy a new IDE cable, or was that supposed to be another drive?

Its a Cable. I was asking if these choices are good, or if they are bad companies.
The IDE cable that I have is only a two way cable (one adapter on each end) so that three way cable will be needed.

Will that drive have the drivers with it and Info on how to set up the jumpers?

yeah the jumper info is typically printed on the drive and as far as IDE cables go i think they are pretty basic i never heard of one brand being better or worse than the next.

And drivers yeah they should come with them, my guess is that it will plug and play and you wont even have to mess with them.

I have not had very much luck with the XP plug and play so far. But if it comes with the driver, that is just extra insurance.

Thanks man.

There will be no driver included with the drive as Windows will install its native driver for cd/dvd drives.

So... what happens if the native driver diesn't work??
I tried another, older DVD drive and Either the driver, or drive itsself didn't work. That is the only reason I ask.

If by chance it doesnt work right away you can go to LG's website and download the driver im sure. But your problem before was that the drive probably didnt work. I cant remember the last time i had to install a driver for a optical drive. I think back when i used 98.

EDIT: I just checked LG's website... couldnt find drivers on their website... maybe I wasn't looking hard enough but I wouldn't worry about it... it will work.

Either the drive is bad or jumper isn't set correctly or the windows registry is corrupted. As I said before, After XP came along there wasn't much need for cd/dvd drive drivers as XP has a compatible native driver for them.

Watch out for LG Drives now. They come with some silly disc burning program in the firmware, if you close the drive with no disc it launches the program, and it's a pain to remove.

Better to get Lite-on, Samsung or Sony drives

I was under the impression that the OEM drives did not have any software with them???

So... What would you suggest if the LG is bad?

That is why that I was looking at OEM drives. The OEM doesnt have anything but the drive. No bolts, cables, programs, or extras.
Anyway that I go, I will have to buy the codecs that run DVD's. (I got a DVD ROM drive and cant even watch the movies because the decoder codec isnt installed.)
