DVI and VGA cable

Hi,

I am using 2 monitors connected both via VGA cable. I tried to connect one with DVI. The DVI cable did not work at all. I am almost totally sure that the cable is allright since its new.

My question is, is it even possible to connect monitors with different cable at once? Am I doing something wrong here
 
It's probably just some setting within the advanced display setting. Most any display today can manage displays of any format; VGA, DVI, component, TV-Out, HDMI... Just confirm it's enabled within your card's configuration.
 
Well I dont see one single problem appart from that it simply does not work. Where should I check the monitor settings, should it not work as soon as I plug it into the graphics card?

Your monitor should have a built in menu, use the buttons on the monitor (They should be on the side, front, back, top etc. parts of the monitor). Use the buttons to pull up the menu. There should be a sub category labeled "Display" or "Settings", search through there to see if it gives you an option for Cable Select of "DVI" or "VGA" etc.
