dvi hdmi problems

hello.

i have some problems when i try to extend or to clone on to my new lcd tv my desktop.

this is what i'm trying to connect:

1. desktop computer/geforce fx5200 video card - dvi output
2. dvi dual link - hdmi cable (belkin)
3. sony lcd tv - hdmi input (it has no dvi input)

the problem is that i get no signal to the tv.

1. the video card dvi output is working (verified with dvi single link - dvi single link cable and another tv which has dvi input)
2. the cable is working (verified by seller)
3. the tv input connector is working (verified with hdmi-hdmi cable)

now, my guess is that the dvi DUAL LINK might be the problem, since the video card is outputting signal on to a dvi single link cable, but i've read that all dual link dvi cables are in fact single link cables which support higher resolutions and refresh rates.

does anyone has some suggestions because i am out of ideas :(

thanks

My Sonly LCD TV will not accept a HDMI input from a PC either.

I plug my Media PC into the VGA input on my TV.
