DVI or VGA?

so for however long i've been using computers i've been using VGA monitors. My friend asked if i could take a look at her computer, but found that her card was DVI. So i was wondering what's better, DVI or VGA?
 
dvi is better. it is digital and vga is analog. i am pretty sure vga needs to convert the signal to analog and then convert it back to digital when it reaches the end of the cable. personally i don't see any difference and i have head that dvi can only do up to 60 hz refresh rate. can anyone else verify that?
 
thanks joh. so i might as well wait to get a higher end video card that supports DVI and monitor, so i can actually tell the difference?
