e6300, 3.7GHz for $300

Wait, how is he selling an over clocked cpu, unless its already in a computer....

It can't be OCed than taken out and put it and retain the OC, it must be over clocked again.
 
No, once you get the chip it'll revert to 1.86 GHz and there's no warranty on it if it's overclocked. Wait until after 22/04/07 when prices are reported to drop.:)

EDIT: Off canadacomputers.com they're selling the E6300's brand new for $229.99CAD!

I am a total newbie when it comes to overclocking :( Can you recommend me a good mobo and everything else I need to overclock e6300 myself? I am planning on building a brand new PC and I have Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 in mind with OCZ DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Gold XTC 2GB
 
If he is selling you just the processor, it will run at the default speed when placed in a new motherboard. Nothing is actually being changed about the processor, all you change are the BIOS settings on the motherboard.

And I hope your friend isnt trying to con you. Because twice the speed of a stock E6300 is 3.72Ghz. So he better not be telling you it's an E6300 running at 3.7Ghz (1.86 x 2 = ~3.7).
 
Are you sure that's a friend? He's either stupid or ripping you off. The motherboard controls the OC, the CPU has no determinance of that. Buy one for yourself, wait 'til April though.
 
The more I think about it, I think hes just doubling the core speed, by pretending that a 1.86Ghz dual-core is the same as a 3.7Ghz processor.
