E6600 shutoff, 256f!!

If a c2d e6600 gets too hot, will it shut itself down? if so at what temp does it happen? my cpu has been running at @ 105-110f,and my case temp @ 100. So i took the side off my case and ran it that way, the temps came down to 94f for the cpu and 93 for the case, quite a decrease, so i removed the plexiglass on the side of my case and replaced it with window screen, (ooks pretty good too.) After a few minutes of running with the side off though my CPU temp went up to 256f! I think this was an error becausee i was using sppedfan to get the temps, not the bios. So i shut it off and restarted, now cpu is staying around 97f. if it was 256f wouldn't it have shut itself off? also it did not feel hot or even warm to the touch and i touched the plate that goes over the cpu, this would have been hot if it were just 256f, no? I hope that it was just an error, this is my first week with this cpu, think i should send it back to Newegg?

You should be able to set the threshold temperature for auto shutdown in the BIOS.

What type of HSF do you and are you sure you put it on right and put on the thermal paste/goo correctly? I would try yourself or have someone help you reset it and put new thermal paste on it. These chips run quite cool.

My temps are 93 F case and 81 F CPU right now and mine is OC'ed.

85C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????????? Holy shit dude! That thing is roasting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DANG!!! WTF????

SPEEDFAN SUCKS

it doesnt work, so dont worry. get PCWizard2007 and monitor from there and get Intel TAT

NEVER TRUST SPEEDFAN

if we could count how many people have posted on here because they saw temps from speedfan, thered be too many
i cant believe people still use it... when will you guys learn?

speedfan shouldnt cost you to return your perfectly good CPU

how may people have had issues with speedfan? millions?

Speedfan actually doesnt really like my system. Besides the fact it can't control the fans or anyhting like that, it's locked my computer up a few times in the past. PCWizard, on the other hand, has worked well and gives more info. It's a slightly larger program, but it also has many other features.

As for the question, I don't know for sure but 85*C sounds about right. Still, I wouldn't ever let my processor get anywhere near that temp... Your temps don't sound too bad, so speedfan probably just glitched on you.

it was a common speedfan "glitch" (ottherwise know as the program sucks)

if you were getting perfect temps and they randomly doubled, dont get all worked up because of this bad program

error

yes, i am about to remove speedfan and go with one of the above mentioned programs. Well I replaced all three fans in my case today with silverstone 110cfm hiflow's. Now my temps are in the 80's,low 90's. The fans that gigabyte installs in their cases are useless, I couldn't even feel a slight breeze behind my computer, now with the 110cfm's it feels like a hurricane behind my comp(unfortunately it sounds like one too though). So new fans lowered all my temps (HDD's,CPU and Case, by at least 20f each!

You should turn your fans down a bit :). If your temperatures are still high when you check with another program, you might as well buy better CPU cooling, or at least make sure the cooler is seated properly.

What are you all on about!? I use speedfan and I've had no problems at all with it! I like it a lot!

Can you have PCWizard2007 in your system tray, so you don't have to open it to view your temps?

actually you can have it displayed in the upper righthand corner of the screen, in cool green text

sorry to steal your thunder, lol
