E6600 woes.

Haha, I'm not that inept. The documentation syas that the board is capable of 1066FSB when overclocked, but it seemed like it wasn't going to work. Now, I reflashed the BIOS, even though I was already on the latest version, and it seems to be working. I have only tried it with the easytune utility and I haven't overclocked it, just set it to 2.4 GHz. I will try more when I get home tonight.

You need to use the BIOS and Not easytune...The BIOS is probably the best way

I know, but by that time I couldn't have cared less. I'm too afraid of the whole thing getting messed up again, but I don't want to have to use a 1.8GHz processor when I paid for a 2.4. And by rights it should go faster than that because it's running at a very cool temperature.

That's understandable, Just know that overclocking via the BIOS is much safer than within Windows using an app like easytune.

Mmm, I would have bought a better one, but I ran into some issues. It all goes back to the new 650W PSU I bought from Antec which just happened to have a faulty pin on the 20pin connector. It fried my mobo and CPU. I was using a dualcore cpu and the mobo was agp for my 6600gt. Well then, I was stuck without a working computer, no money tom my name and a computer engineering assignment due in less than a week. So, with my limited funds and the limited amout of stock available immediately in my town, I bought the mobo, the cpu, but on top of that I needed a 7600GT and a gig of ram. I would have loved something better, but what can you do?

Okay, it worked. But it won't overclock to anything over 2.4. I think this is a chipset problem. Not to worry, I will be buying a new mobo and two nVidia 8800s soon.
