I'm building a system for a friend and on start up screen came up but I my keyboard wouldnt work. I plugged another one in and restarted an then.......Nothing.

I swapped out everything until finally stuck another processor in. A single core 3.2 and bam, I had a post.. with checksum error. So bad processor? The motherboard is a p5k and is rated for 45nm.

Thank you,
Well it's said the motherboard has "native support" for 45nm. Also I tried taking the heatsink off and touching the processor when I turn the power on. It just gets warm very slowly.

If you tell us what mobo/hardware you have we might be able to help you. BIOS was the first thing I thought as well, as that is a 45nm chip. Hopefully you didn't fry the processor with your troubleshooting above, as that is usually not the best idea:rolleyes:.

motherboard: ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard.
Processor e8400
antec 500 watt power supply
geforce 8600
320gig wd hard drive.

On the heat sink thing, I did it just for maybe 5 seconds and the processor was barely warm to the touch so I couldn't have fried it. It's not working, that's why I tried that. I can't check the bios cause I can't get it to post.

Try updating the bios with the processor that works with it. It sounds to me like its not making post because the current bios is not supported with the e8400
