E8400 -- I got one!

I ordered it last night and called today to make sure it was even in stock. He said they just ran out of stock, but that my order was processed first and it will ship today!

I'm excited now! This was the hardest piece of the puzzle. As soon as I get the shipping confirmation, I'm going to order all the rest and the building will *finally* commence!!!

Disclaimer: Yes, I had to pay $280 for it. But hell, after taxes on Newegg, it's not that much more expensive, and I decided to jump on it while it was available.

So why not order from somewhere else?

Well, I've looked at a few other places but they don't seem to have the same selection that Newegg does. TigerDirect doesn't even have certain brands altogether. What are some other good places?

Well, actually, what's the sales tax in NJ? It's like 9% here.

It's 7%, but strangely I didn't seem to be charged that much on one order that I had in my shopping cart. When I ordered Windows XP by itself ($90), I was charged $6.30 for tax, which is 7%, but when I had a bigger order (around $180), the tax was $9, which isn't quite 7%. Not sure how it really works.

And of course, actually going to a computer store in New York would mean a slightly higher sales tax, so I'll only do that if the shipping charge is a factor otherwise.

Oh I was confused, I thought you ordered the E8400 from Newegg, where'd you get it?

Oh no, sorry. I wish they had it, it's much cheaper! I got it from InterProShop.com. I think they are out of it now too, despite the fact that the price has gone up $30 since last night!

Rip off, if it's not readily available then just wait or buy something else, as you can get a Q6600 for about $250.

But at least you didn't have to pay tax on it. Congratulations and good luck with your build, I want to see pictures of it.

Yeah, I know. I'm well aware that I got suckered into paying more for it, but I was getting worried about other items also going out of stock if I didn't buy soon. The motherboard I originally wanted disappeared, and the 8800GT seems like it might also vanish, even if temporarily, just because the 9 series is coming out now.

I'm really anxious to finally do this, after months of researching, so I just had to swallow the cost of the CPU. If I knew for sure that everything else would still be available and waiting for me, then I'd wait a while longer for the E8400.

EDIT: What's really sad is that distributor's are even allowed to raise the price at all. Remember when the E8400 was listed for $183??? :(

Thanks. I do plan to take some before and after pictures, and hopefully I won't be so nervous that I forget to take a few in between as well. :)

join the club! :P

$280 is crazy though, i paid $230 for mine, shipped :(

Yeah it is crazy, no argument there! :) If I got it from Newegg right now it would be $260.

Ah well, as long as I see that shipping confirmation email today, I'll be ecstatic! :)

It's only $239.99 on Newegg, unless you're including tax and/or shipping.

Yeah, me and my tax. :) Shipping is free, luckily.

Btw, just got the shipping confirmation for mine, so it's a done deal! Now I can order everything else tonight. The only other complication would be going to my local store and asking to see the monitor I want before I buy it, and hopefully checking to see if it's actually a Samsung panel. I hope they let me do it.
