e8400 over the q6600

Right now I can get the E8400 for 280 bucks at zipzoomfly.com. They have them in stock. My question is should I spend the extra 30 bucks for the E8400 or get the q6600 that comes with a free game for $254? I would rather have the E8400 but I don't want to spend that much on it. What would you do? Or do you have a better suggestion than those two?

I need to buy something pretty quick. I have everything else bought for my new build.

Could someone delete this thread? I already have it posted in the right forum. Sorry.

Does $30 really have that much impact on your life? And, after all you've spent on everything else, what exactly is $30?

I really don't see the point of this thread (save maybe to highlight the fact that you're building something you're proud of).. I'm quite certain you already know what you're going to buy.

Honestly I'm really not sure. I was originally going to go with the q6600 but then the E8400 came out so I was going to get that.

Is the E8400 really that much better than the q6600 to spend more on a dual core rather than a quad core.?

I would wait, $280 bucks.. thats nuts. Theres a high demand right now, i got mine for $230 shipped, they should be around $190.

Well then, in that case I would wait for the 8 core Intel Micro Devices CPU (and for God's sake, change your battery) and upgrade your RAM to Nintendo RAM.

lol.

For today's apps, the dual core will definitely be a better bet, as in most cases a quad core sits with two cores idle 90% of the time (unless you spank it to benchmarks, in which case those fools over at Mad Onion or Hardforum might be the people to ask).

Are you dragging other threads across the forum?

It doesn't seem as though the OP is asking whether or not he should spend $30 more, but if it would be better to get the E8400 or Q6600.

But the one off of Tigerdirect is the oem version which doesn't have a fan with it and Newegg is out of stock right now.

Yes I am trying to decide which one is better. Although I would rather have the e8400 since it is the 45nm version.
