e8400 overclock

I just installed 2 more gigs of ram so now I have 4x1gig of ram. I put the same settings like I did on the 2gigs meaning 2.050 v for Ram @ 5-5-5-12, 445 core @ 1.312v 9x multi, and Im getting error. I ran orthos and after 5 sec error. Do I need to reconfigure the settings again if you add 2 more gigs of ram.

I'm trying to get my cpu overclock to 4.6ghz. I currently have it at 3.6ghz. I am using a Noctua NH-U9B Cpu Cooler. For some reason I had overlocked it to 4.0ghz awhile back. I had to reset my bios cause I was running Linux and I had a problem with it. I now installed xp and I tried to use the same settings I used before but when I ran orthos for 3 min my pc shuts down, last time I ran orthos for 4 hours no errors or shut downs, last time I had a worse cpu cooler now I upgraded and on 3.6ghz I get 32-33c on idle. Anyone can tell me why its shutting down. Also I trying to get my cpu now to 4.6ghz only for my 3dmarks06 score then I will put it back down to 4.0ghz when I get the pc no to turn off. Can someone whats settings are recommended to get to 4.6ghz. All I did to get to 4.0ghz last time was change fsb to 445, VID to +175 and changed the ram voltage to 2.050v. Should I change anything else. Please help TY.

your chip might not be able to reach the speeds you want, not all will.

4.6ghz is very ambitious, you would need water cooling for that, plus it sound like your chip doesn't even like 4ghz. if you relay want to reach those speed then a lot of research needs to be done

What power supply are you using, this can often be a problem.

ok i got it back to 4.0ghz stable running at 38c idle. Gonna try pushing it alittle more maybe to 4.16 - 4.2ghz no more.

what is the temp under load?

you might be better leaving it at 3.8 or so in order to increase te cpu life(just a suggestion)
