e8400 overclock

I cleaned the cpu block and readded tuniq tx-2 compound and im getting idle now at 40c-43c. I think I added to much the first time. I'm gonna run orthos now and see if my temps reach 70c-80c again.

Didn't do anything runs hot on orthos test and shuts down. I will be looking a new cpu cooler or go with liquid cooling anyone knows a good cpu cooler that you can recommend for me.

Thank You.

Try re-installing the cooler. Are you using Artic Silver? Have you tried updating bios?
Also I read some reviews on this and it seems like some people also had temp. problem with your type of cooler.

I reinstalled the cpu im using tuniq tx-2 termal compund and still idles are around 40's put when I run orthos to check the stability after 10 mins without no errors temps reach high 70's 80's. Im thinking the cpu coolers is just bad and needs to be replaced. I will send it back to newegg and get something else. Im gonna check the pins for the psu I know if put 8pin for the motherboard and the manual stats it comes with 8 pin cpu connector . Can you tell which one of these coolers I should get.

1) XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
2) OCZ OCZTVEND2 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
3) KINGWIN Revolution RVT-12025 120mm H.D.T. CPU Cooler

or can you recommend me something.

#2 looks good but you can also get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887011
free shipping and rebate on it. But Like I said before check on the updated bios and the 8 pin connector cause that could be your only issue. Are you sure your not adding too much compound?

SOKOL is the cooler a screw on type?

Is the CPU cooler u showed me good if so I will check it out. I have 8 pin cpu connector plugged in checked it couple min ago took all the plugs out to make sure it was plugged into 8pin. I didn't add to much compound just enough so u don't see the heatsink. I checked DFI's website and I have the newest bios. My cooler is a screw on the bracket went underneath the motherboard.

did you follow the proper way of screwing them?
Should be almost like installing the tires to car.
Hows it doing now that you have the 8 pin

Everything I reset the cmos running everything at stock I have a problem wont play any games when I start game I get a blue error screen and the pc restarts. Don't what is happening I will be checking the system again ram etc and doing format and then check with the overclocking. I will post tommorrow. If all fails I will be returning these parts and getting something better.

I'm starting to think you got a bad PSU. Do you have a spare one ?

Yea in my other PC put 400watt wont do me anything. I will check tomorrow all the connections and reroute the wires check ram check everything and format hard drive and I will post results when I'm well see whats going on with it.

Sokol,

Disable "Automatically restart" option during System Failure in Windows so you can see the error message. It may give you some clues.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, this is the error message when I try loading cod4 or cod2. Im gonna update windows see if that helps if not check my ram could be that one is bad or something. If the ram is fine and the update didn't help I will format HDD and do a fresh installation of xp. I will post my results in 1 hour.

your ram's timings are kind of weird, i would try changing them to 5-5-5-12. your performance wont lose a single FPS and if your ram is causing the error then that will stop.

I took out ram and switched their places and changed the timing, It looks like it works. Im donna do a format now and I will go from there with the overclocking. Will post results in a bit.

Ok, I reformatted my pc. Installed Core Temp and I'm idling at 42c which is pretty high im guessing. I will run orthos on stock cpu speed and voltage but with 5-5-5-12 ram timing and see what the temp will be if it exceeds 60 or 70 its my cpu cooler that will need to be changed. I have one more question I bought ram from newegg. On the back of the box it say (2x1gb) but on each ram sticks it says (2x1gb) but I have 2 sticks show that would be 4gb am I right.

Ran orthos for a 1hour on stock cpu speed and voltage and I get 55c on full load no errors. I dont know why it reaches 80c and over when I overclock it and set the voltage etc. The max should be around 65c.

Not sure why it jumps so high when you OC the chip but atleast you got the system running stable on stock clocks right now. Let's see what other guy's say regarding OC portion, I am kind of new to OC my self.

I ran orthos for 1 hour 9 min and got error. Its a ram error, need to check my voltage. During the test my temps reached 80c-81c no higher which is better than before considering it was restarting. I will be changing the cpu cooler and getting something that actually cools the cpu.

OK ran orthos for 2 hours and no errors temps reached 80c and not higher. I will be replacing the cpu cooler and getting another one. Also want to go with 4gigs of ram. What should I get 2x2gb or just add 2x1gb to the ones I already have. Also I will be selling my video card since I cant return it to newegg for a ATI 4870 or wait when the 4870x2 if ATI is going make that. Here are my current settings. 445, 9x 1.312v, ram 2.050v @ 5-5-5-12 and everything works nicely. Thank you guys for the help.
