i want to get this thing to 4.0. i had it at 3.6 for a while and it ran fine. it has been at the stock 3.0 for the last couple weeks and now i want to OC it again

my multiplier is locked at 9.
stock FSB is at 334mhz.

pretty much thats all i know as far as overclocking goes.... set FSB to certain number to achieve desired speed once the multiplier multiplies it.

i have been trying to get it past 3.6, but any FSB past 410 and the PC wont boot. i get an overclocking failed message with an option to enter my BIOS or press f2 to load default values and continue to boot. im open to suggestions here. i know my motherboard can do it because i have seen people using the same cpu/mobo get to 4.0 and beyond.

the ram info you see has all been set back to auto for now. once i get the CPU OCd i will try to do the ram but im going to take one thing at a time.

unless of course you think the RAM might be part of the problem

stock is 1.192 and i have put it as high as 1.25. scared to go any higher.

ive been getting the BSOD anytime I put it higher than 3.6 ghz

I did 450FSB and 9x multiplier, set voltage just below 1.40 and everything else on default or automatic...

And I hit 4.0GHz...no issue

And blah blah blah about thats too high of voltage...my temps are stable and cool,,,,and it works like a dream on the e8400...

Nothing else is oc'ed or modified from stock in any way,...cept my graphics...using stock ATI overdrive.

The BSOD is because there isn't enough voltage going to the CPU (vCore). You'll need to put the vCore up a step, then test for stability. If it isn't stable, put it up a bit more. I think that around 1.4v is the highest for 24/7 use, I'd check that first though.

I ran my E6300 at 1.31v perfectly fine. ;)
