E8500 Running temps

just wondering what is a good temp for a stock e8500. currently at idle it is 43c after playing crysis it is about 58c-60c is that ok or a little too hot?

I am using stock cooling and am not overclocking it. Also I am using an Asus motherboard that has a temp monitor and OC software, as I watch the temp I can see that the voltage on the cpu is constantly changing. does this mean that the utility is OCing and under clocking my cpu

Based on the information you provided above, your temps seem fine. My E8400 on a stock cooler at near default voltages ran in the mid-40's idle, and topped out in the high 60's under load.

As far as monitoring, the 45nm chips seem to report temps incorrectly. I've found that CoreTemp works best for me.

overclocking? no, but when your computer doesnt need the extra power, (99% of the time,) the processor automatically lowers its clockspeed and voltage to save power. all in all it is a very good feature.

and if your worried that your computer is getting less power when it needs it, dont be. it takes nanoseconds for the processor to clock back to 3.16ghz, which is completely unnoticeable.
