Earthing new build

Ok, so the idea is to build a computer entirely out of wood or near enough for a product design project into eco. I've got myself a computer to tear apart, so I'm well into modelling the case to pull off drawings to build.

I've been told that since the structure of the tower is going to be wood, I need to think about how the components will be earthed. Is this necessary and could someone explain a decent way to do this (to an idiot)?

Any thoughts would be amaze!

One of the problems you'll have to research is how to properly ground everything. You won't be able to drill holes in the wood and just install the motherboard, to my knowledge. You'll have to have some metal on the inside connecting to the power supply so it can be grounded. That's what I think a problem will be, to my knowledge.

Ahh, this is what I was fearing! Can anyone elaborate or explain why? This is all gold for the research side of things.

Thanks for the snappy response!

The power supply is plugged into the motherboard, the power supply is plugged into the wall, its grounded. I would still use standoffs under the board to give it some air flow underneath.

Interesting. I've been lead to believe the case had something to do with it, but what you say makes perfect sense.

Has anyone experience the result of ungrounded components? I assume they are damaged as a result of static discharge?
