Earthquake- subtle effect on a computer

We have "panel" computer- monitor, computer is all one box on the table. We run Windows 7 and I'm in Japan far enough away from the Big One for it to have been only been a long jarring vibration- 30s to 1 minute. But now I am getting memory dumps I hope its not something I accessed- my wife could go nuts - its her computer and she's not good with computers so I'll have to persaude her to install registry software. So can an earthquake not give an immediate fault but later due to internal disruption cause the computer to malfunction. If so is there a good website preferably in Japanese that says so (she can read English). Its under warranty so she can get that internal problem fixed.

Firstly, may I take this opportunity to wish safety to you and your family and to offer my condolences for your nation in general. It is with great regret that we read about the disaster in your country.

Erm... I think, given the probabilities of computer malfunctions, along with your distance from the earthquake's range of damage, that it is more likely to be a coincidence than directly related to disruptions caused by the earthquake. The question is - are you aware of any other people in your area that are reporting similar problems with their computers?

Should I make a new thread

Thanks for your reply- only a little idea about other computers (upstairs have laptop but it was off and on a shelf). I had no warning about the great one so I had the computer on- now get mobile alerts about every trivial (trivial in this location) earthquake.

Help my wife understand there is big problem with her computer
After the computer (Windows 7 Japanese Version) is on a long time, I have had two memory dumps in a few days.
Its my wife's computer and she doesn't even understand the Japanese explanations of what a Windows Registry is and of course reads the do not change registry messages as gospel . Of course the memory dumps haven't happened for her and the Jcom computer monitoring software- probably just does virus scans and spyware checks says everything is fine. I don't she'd like read something like Windows for dummy as she doesn't consider herself a dummy.

I too would guess it is a matter of coincidence, rather than from the earthquake.

Would it be a big deal for you to reformat and reinstall a clean install of Windows? If you have everything backed up that you need to or can do so, that would be a good option. This is coming from a guy that has reformatted many, MANY times over the years (internet porn likes to play rough). If a reformat doesn't work, it would almost have to be a problem hardware-wise. Just make sure you back up anything you need to first, if that applies.

I can't even convince my wife there is a problem no way she'd accept a reinstall and anyway it would have to be from the second drive no disks included with this store bought computer.
