Easy or not?

Hey,

Was thinking about upgrading my laptop processor, is this an easy process? ie. easier or harder than installing pc processors? Also is there anyhting i should be aware of when buying laptop proccessros, will i need to change anything else? ie. You need better cooling on a desktop when you get a more powerful processor, is the same with a laptop?

I don't know about changing them, but I would imagine that it is just as easy as putting it in a PC. Just harder to get at it... Obviously cooling isn't as good in a laptop but I think you can buy docks for them to go on with cooling.
 
They are harder to install then desktops mainly because as Kornowski said, they are harder to get at. You need to research the chipset you have and find out what processor its capable of handling. I know that the Intel 945 chipset, which im using for my current Core Duo 1.83Ghz, also works with say, a 2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo.
 
Yeah, like Omega said, you need to make sure you are buying the right type of CPU, I think there's a mobile line of Core 2 Duo's that may be designed for laptops. Look into it before you rush into it :P

You have a Celeron M. That is a Celeron.

The Celeron M is based off the same architecture as the Pentium M, which is why it has a slower clock speed. Your Celeron M 1.4Ghz would actually outerperform the Celeron 2.2Ghz. It's like comparing the Pentium M 1.4 to a Pentium 4 2.2...

However you may be able to upgrade to a Pentium M if your motherboard can handle it.

No they arent the same, although they seem like it. Again, it's like the Pentium M and mobile Pentium 4, they are different.

They never made a Celeron M at 2.2Ghz, I dont think they even got that close to the 2Ghz mark, only the Pentium M did.
 
Ok :), My processor is a "1.4ghz celeron m", i was going to upgrade it with a "2.2ghz mobile celeron" is this worth it?
